Kathleen B. Kay
Kathy Kay is executive vice president and chief information officer of Principal Financial Group®. She is responsible for overseeing the company’s global technology, digital operations, service delivery, digital strategies, and innovation that supports current and future business needs.
Kay joined Principal® in May 2020. She has over 35 years of cross-industry experience in IT leadership. She most recently led the information technology business at Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E), including the company’s mission-critical systems and development of the company’s technology strategy, infrastructure, and architecture. She also held leadership positions with General Motors, Comerica, and SunTrust.
Kay serves on the boards of directors of Seacoast Bank, Mechdyne, the Iowa Governors STEM Advisory Board, the Technology Association of Iowa, and Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. She earned a master’s degree in engineering science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Wayne State University.
